In addition to being a land of great flavors and traditionally a decidedly colorful place, today we wanted to focus on contemporary art combined with the desire for the emerging Sicilian artists. During the days spent in Sicily I had the chance to come across splendid exhibitions organized in spectacular places throughout the region and – I tell the truth – my life partner is a Sicilian artist. But today I want to tell you the story of one of our friends: Lorenzo Ciulla. Almost by chance I came across one of his shows at the Fico – a huge new shopping center in Bologna – and I was impressed.
The Style
The style reminds at times a revisitation of Mirò, the always bright colors that blend into a single canvas. The attention to detail, sometimes not very visible, is impressive. Looking at the canvas for several minutes, we see more and more stories intersected in other stories, making a storm of otherwise unmovable ideas homogeneous.
The artistic research, in the case of the Bolognese exhibition, is based on three different moments: Sicily as a region to live full of traditions and typicality, the fairy tale that makes the child relive in every adult who observes the works and the animals that always remain the main theme of Lorenzo’s work.
Other Projects
In addition to the already mentioned ability of Lorenzo in giving life to works in which the imagination is brought to the nth degree, the artist works in his workshops in Caltanissetta and Modena (in Emilia Romagna) in the original artistic reproduction on T-shirts and fabrics. On his website there is the possibility to customize a fabric giving the artist a free hand in his creativity. The next appointment will be at the end of February in a themed exhibition in the city of Modena. Probably my partner and I will return and it will be a further step for us in the artistic vein of Lorenzo Ciulla.
